At Brown and Hurley Brisbane Port, we do our best to look out for one another and check in with our teammates, because we know that a simple conversation can make a real difference.
Every day in Australia, around eight people lose their lives to suicide. For every life lost, it is estimated that around 30 people attempt suicide. Many of us know someone who has struggled, with 89% of Australians reporting that they know someone who has attempted suicide.
These are confronting statistics, and they remind us why it is so important to support organisations like R U OK?
R U OK?'s vision is a world where everyone is connected, supported, and protected from suicide. Their mission is to inspire people to genuinely connect with those around them and support anyone going through a difficult time.
By taking the time to ask a simple question, "Are you OK?", and by listening without judgement, we can help people feel seen, supported, and connected long before they reach a crisis point.
