In memory of James (Jamie) Dickson

By Rees Dickson Join Me

I'm fundraising in memory of my brother, Jamie!

On 17 May 2026, we lost my brother Jamie.

He was one of the kindest people I have ever known. The sort of person who made others feel comfortable without trying, who treated people with genuine care, and who carried a quiet resilience through things most people never saw.

Life without him has been incredibly hard to understand or accept.

I started this page in his memory. Not just to honour who he was, but because I keep thinking about how many people are struggling in silence. How often we only find out when it is too late.

Every day, around eight Australians lose their lives to suicide. That number feels different now. It is not just a statistic anymore. It is real people, real families, real loss. And it is eight too many.

If there is anything I want Jamie’s name to stand for, it is kindness. The kind that shows up in small moments. The kind that makes people feel seen. We do not always know what someone is carrying, so how we treat each other matters more than we think.

Talking helps too. Even the simple act of asking someone how they are, and actually listening, can make a difference. We need more of that. Less silence, less stigma, more honesty.

This page is for Jamie, and for anyone who might need a reminder that they are not alone.

Thank you for being here.

A huge thank you to Jamie's wonderful work colleagues at Services Australia Batemans Bay for raising $186 today through their bake sale in support of the R U OK? fundraiser in Jamie's memory. 🩵

Thanks to your generosity, the total amount raised has now reached an incredible $4,489.

I'm also so proud to share that Jamie's fundraiser is now ranked #70 in the all time R U OK? Fundraiser Hall of Fame. What an amazing way to honour his memory and support such an important cause.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared the fundraiser, or found their own special way to support it. It truly means the world.

$4,303 Raised. Thank You. 🩵

Wednesday 22nd Jul

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported Jamie's fundraiser.

Thanks to your incredible generosity, we raised $4,303 by the end of the financial year, which is an amazing result.

Every donation, no matter the size, is helping support the important work of R U OK? and keeps Jamie's memory alive in a way that can make a real difference for others.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who donated, shared the fundraiser, or offered words of encouragement. Your kindness and support have meant more than I can put into words.

Thank you for helping honour Jamie's legacy. 💛

$3,950 Raised in Jamie's Memory

Monday 22nd Jun

When we first launched Jamie's R U OK? fundraiser, we had no idea where it would end up. We simply wanted to honour Jamie's life in a way that felt meaningful, and hopefully help others who might be struggling.

Today, we've reached $3,950.

To say we're blown away would be an understatement.

Every donation, every share, every kind message and conversation has helped turn something born from heartbreak into something that can make a real difference. It is a reflection of just how many lives Jamie touched and how deeply he was loved.

Losing Jamie has left a hole in the lives of so many people. The past five weeks since he passed have been incredibly difficult, but seeing people come together in his memory has been a powerful reminder that kindness still exists, even in the darkest moments.

Mental health affects so many people, whether directly or through someone they love. If this fundraiser encourages even one person to check in on a friend, start a conversation, ask for help, or realise they are not alone, then it is already achieving something special.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to every single person who has donated and supported this fundraiser. Your generosity means more than you could ever know.

Jamie would probably be equal parts humbled, embarrassed by the attention, and wondering how on earth everyone managed to raise this much money in his name.

We miss him every day.

Thank you for helping us keep his memory alive and for supporting the important work that R U OK? does in encouraging meaningful conversations that can change lives.

Let's see if we can make it to $4,000.

Thank you x Infinity (and Beyond!) 🩵

Jamz0r, I miss you daily and appreciate your friendship over the last 14 or so years where we first met online, on that day I made a best friend that I never got to meet. Our friendship went beyond the online realm and I miss your wisdom, your calming responses (and witty ones too which kept me on my toes haha), and our life updates, you helped me through many hardships and I hope I helped you even just slightly. Dear Sunshine, Thank you for always being so authentically you. So full of joy, whimsy, laughter, love, and happiness. A beacon of hope in so many lives around you - even if you weren't around them in the material world, even virtual friendships last a lifetime. The time you shared with so many in this world will never be forgotten, the day long chats via MSN messenger, late night Skype calls, lazy days hanging on Habbo Hotel, questing and levelling through Azeroth in World of Warcraft, these will be a lifelong amount of memories for myself to treasure, and millions more for others who were blessed enough to have you in their lives. You were always there when I needed someone to talk to, to listen to my angsty teenage rants, to complain about how bad I thought my life was, but you always listened and did your best to comfort me not matter what. I was able to survive my first break up with your guidance, and endure heartache when my crush rejected me. It was a blessing to have you in my life the way I did. You and Rees always felt like older brothers just looking out for me and I wish I took the time to thank you especially properly for guiding me so well in my younger years Thank you for everything Love, Moonbeam

Jamie was genuinely one of the kindest people I have ever known. Though many years have passed since we saw one another, I always smiled whenever I saw his name appear on my screen. He was a truly rare and beautiful soul, and the world is now poorer for his absence. Thank you for the kindness, friendship, and laughter, Jamie. May your memory not only be a blessing to all who were lucky enough to have crossed paths with you, but may we all continue to be inspired by your love and kindness. Requiescat in pace.
