Ride4Ben: A Mental Health Challenge

By Steven Moore Join Me

I'm fundraising for a great cause!

A ride for Ben, is a cycling challenge I have set myself to complete, over 200km of cycling in 1 day.
Ben was a company man, he loved his place of work. Ben was constantly recognised by his team members, management and of course the George Town Woolworths Customers.
Unfortunately Ben ended his life, but his spirit will live on, Ben was  1 of the main faces you would get served by everyday. He was polite, respectful and a true gentleman.
I knew Ben was struggling with Mental Health, most of us knew about this, we all supported him, we all were there for him.

MyRide shock!!!

Friday 16th Aug
Something Unbelievable happened yesterday! On Tuesday I went into Myride to make a very difficult decision to cancel my layby as it was getting a bit financially hard to pay it off in time, they were more than happy to process the refund, however they went above and beyond to help me out, and didn't want me to cancel it as they knew how much I love this bike and they wanted me to have it for my big ride in September, and came up with a solution which has allowed me to have the bike now and make continual payments until fully paid. Ben and the MyRide team at Launceston also donated $500 to the RUOk fundraiser! As I grabbed out the bike today out of the shed, I am still in shock. This whole journey just trying to raise awareness and prevention of suicide. powering up the conversation for men to open up and speak up. I never expect anything in return, as it's not about me and never will make it about me, but to say I'm truly overwhelmed is an understatement. Please please please go to Myride Launceston and meet the team, they are truly great people, I can vouch on that, as I am usually in that store Once a week minimum.

What is Ride4Ben: A Mental Health Challenge

Saturday 16th Mar
What is this?: A ride for Ben, is a cycling challenge I have set myself to complete, over 200km of cycling in 1 day.
I saw Ben the night before shopping at our store, he was buying a meal for himself. He walked past me and we just had a general conversation and we were even laughing about one of our conversations. Unfortunately the next morning Ben was no longer with us, when I was speaking to him that night, I saw no signs that something was going to happen. A true gentleman gone, saw nothing but the best in others, he would always ask how you were going, he was a big advocate of mental health himself.
I don't understand how much pain and hurt he was going through, I never will.
So I thought I'd challenge myself and raise awareness for Mental health at the same time.
I am casual cyclist averaging about just over 30kms per ride, with the longest ride of 86km.

So here I am pledging to ride 200km in one day, a massive mental challenge and massive raise of awareness for RU okay?.
As Ben was a company man for our Woolworths Store, I decided to do a ride to other Woolworths stores. Details will be below

 Date: September 12th 2024 @ 6:00am

Location:
6am start @ Woolworths George riding to Woolworths Scottsdale (77km)

Woolworths Scottsdale riding to Woolworths Mowbray (71km)

Woolworths Mowbray riding to Woolworths Launceston (5km)

Woolworths Launceston riding to Woolworths Legana (14km)

Woolworths Legana riding to Woolworths George Town (50km)

I'm truly excited to do this mental health challenge by raising awareness, RU okay? Stands for all this values.

This is for you Ben!
May your spirit live on
