I'm fundraising for a great cause!

Hi my name is AdamΒ

I have decided to take on this challenge to help R U OK? to spread their message and help prevent suicide. Sometimes battling mental health and personal problems can feel like climbing mt Everest so I thought It was fitting that I do a Everest challenge for this great cause.

This will be the most challenging physical and mental task I have ever undertaken and there will be months of preparation from fundraising and spread awareness to the many hours of training and dieting to be physically ready to make it through the challenge, on that note I plan to keep a active social media presence that spreads the awareness and a place for people to donate or just have a chat if they are having a tough time, I will also post updates on progress of training, big rides I do to prepare along with other stuff like the boring meals I have to eat to be a reasonable weight and the help from supporters behind the scenes to give people an idea of what goes into making the day a success, I will also have special mentions to some of the great business's that have jumped on board to help make it a success!Β

Below are some facts and details from the R U OK foundationΒ

About 8 people take their own lives in Australia every day.

For every death, it’s estimated another 30 people will attempt suicide.

89% of people report knowing somebody who has made an attempt.

I want to help change these numbers.

R U OK?’s vision is of a world where we are all connected and protected from suicide.

Their mission is to inspire everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and support anyone struggling with life.

By inspiring people to take the time to ask, β€œAre you OK?” and listen, we can help people who are struggling with life to feel connected long before they even think about suicide.Β

Thank you so much for your support, together we will make a difference.

Rest week

Thursday 2nd Nov
So half way through my first proper rest week in the training schedule since announcing the challenge, its been nice to relax for a few days but I'm eager to get back to it and continue building!Β

We had the first roll out of sponsors with Ekoi and Bress Winery announced and still a few more in the bank ready to go in the coming weeks. I have been in talks with said sponsors and we are looking at setting up a few different raffles and other fundraising methods, something that will hopefully be really good at bringing in some funds for this great cause.

Training wise things are going really well, I'm feeling stronger and stronger every day, managed 6 reps of Mt Alex last Saturday and still felt good afterwards so I feel like I'm in a good place still so far out from the challenge so hopefully I can pair this training with some racing and continue to really enjoy the journey like I have so far!Β

@adam_jackson9

it's been a good week of training with some climbing reps, Mtb endurance and finished off today with some gym (excuse the ghetto gym set up you make do with what you have when you live on a farm πŸ˜‚) #cycling #everesting #ruok #fyp

Busy busy busy

Thursday 19th Oct
Sorry for the long break between blob posts I have been a busy bee around my normal full time work, I have been ramping up the Endurance training as well as some body weight gym work, also IΒ  have been in talks with multiple different sponsors that will get announced over the next few weeks which is super exciting, it feels like a massive accomplishment that a little old nobody like me can set up something that is growing to be quite a big event with what is now a large support / sponsor group behind it, and now as we get closer and closer hopefully we can reach more and more people for raising as much awareness and fundsΒ  as possible for this great cause that has had an impact on so many of us or one of our friends or loved ones with the way things are shaping up hopefully I can announce one of the big sponsors in the next week or so πŸš΅β€β™‚οΈ

Proud moments and beginning of specific training πŸŽ‰πŸ’ͺ

Tuesday 3rd Oct
A couple of days since the last post and the announcement of the challenge now and there has been a few things starting to happen that makes me proud and a few things towards getting prepared for the challenge, first of all we received our first few donations and I didn't realise how happy and excited it would make me to get those emails it's a small start but it is a start and it feels like a big step as I was terrified no one would donate πŸ˜… so now that first starting point is out of the way I can just focus on getting myself into shape and organising with sponsors for the next little bit and just keeping people updated and sending out info for awareness, there is some big plans in talks with sponsors and it will be great to announce that and spread the word even further in the next few weeks and months!

I think one of my biggest challenges will be staying focused, controlled and disciplined while climbing, I like riding hard and trying to go fast up climbs and that won't work when I'll be climbing for 14 or more hours, so I've started trying to learn how to climb at the top of z2 / bottom of z3 and it is tough I have to be a lot more switched on.Β

On Saturday I'll be doing recon for both sides of mt Alex before racingΒ  to start to determine what will be better for me to make it through the challenge and to add fatigue in before I race to make that hour of racing have a lot more of an effect on training.Β

With the track season and summer racing being back loaded into the first half before Christmas I plan on doing mostly just my climbing training and then racing for the fun and a mental break aswell as adding intensity into my training without having to dedicate full training rides to itΒ

Starting out the training for the Everest with track racing πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«β˜ οΈπŸ”₯

Friday 29th Sep
For some reason I thought the day I posted the challenge to the world indicating the start of prep for it would be a good day to race my first track race of the year actually scratch that first proper ride on my bike since last season and at the Adelaide track league, I clearly showed how rusty I am not double checking my cog and ended up riding a much smaller gear then I was meant to (94 instead of 100 ooops) so I spent the whole night dying but it was worth the trip and the experience just to say I've done it, the rest of track season will have to be a lot Sharper then this πŸ˜‚ I'm very happy with the response we have currently had to the first day of the challenge and I'm looking forward to naming some big sponsors I'm currently in talks with so stay tuned πŸ’ͺ

Thank you to my Sponsors
