Please Join Me To Start A Conversation And Help Prevent Suicide In Australia.
Hey there! 💛🖤
Thank you for taking the time to stop by.
I have decided to raise funds for R U OK? to spread their important message to help prevent suicide. I am going to do this by running the Nike Melbourne Half Marathon (21.1kms) on Sunday October 2nd.
Over the past three years I have struggled to find peace, balance and happiness in my life as a result of mental health challenges. On a daily basis I've felt miserable, hopeless and was asking myself questions about my worth and my purpose. It really started taking a toll on my mental health, my physical wellbeing and my personal relationships.
I have been very fortunate that I've had the love and support from my beautiful wife Katie and an amazing network of people in my life who have helped me to find the support I need to improve my health.
As a part of my journey to "feel like me" again I am re-igniting my passion for running to inspire and empower people to seek help and support when they need it the most.
Funds raised from activities like this enable R U OK? to work towards reducing suicide through free community education programs, creating and distributing free resources, raising awareness about suicide prevention and conducting research to support people who need it.
Some sobering statistics to think about...
- About 8 people take their own lives in Australia every day.
- For every death, it’s estimated another 30 people will attempt suicide.
- 89% of people report knowing somebody who has made an attempt.
I want to help change these numbers.
R U OK?’s vision is of a world where we are all connected and protected from suicide.
It's R U OK?'s mission is to inspire everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and support anyone struggling with life.
By inspiring people to take the time to ask, “Are you OK?” and listen, we can help people who are struggling with life to feel connected long before they even think about suicide.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about my journey and my exciting challenge ahead. I appreciate your support, together we really can make a difference and help save lives!
Training & Fundraising Update!Tuesday 12th Apr
It's been a wild month or two since my last update... I have spent a lot of time attending appointments and receiving treatment / massage on my legs, back and neck. I've picked up an injury which I am working through with some awesome sports doctors and Physiotherapists. Apparently I am not 18 anymore? Who knew? Haha! I am hopeful of being able to really increase my training load in the coming weeks as the Half Marathon event date draws closer!
We've hit the fundraising target yet AGAIN! I will increase the target once more to continue to encourage my colleagues, family and amazing friends to support the incredible work that R U OK? do for our community. The team at R U OK? were nice enough to send me a care / thank you package for the awareness and funds raised through this challenge. The trophy (pictured) is a testament to you all and your amazing generosity, love and support!
Thank you all so much, I will check in with you all again soon! 💛🖤
GOAL – SMASHED!Thursday 17th Feb
I am humbled, overwhelmed and so thankful that we’ve managed to reach the
intended fundraising goal of the 5 month journey in just 10 days!
I am so proud of the friends, family and work colleagues that I have in my life and cannot express how much this support means to me!
I have extended the financial goal further to encourage new people to donate to the fantastic work that R U OK? does. But I want to emphasize how grateful I am to everyone who has donated and left such motivating messages of love and support.
💛🖤 How much can we raise for R U OK Day? 💛🖤
