for the love of Lohlow

Fundraising in honour of Lohlow

Logan was the type of child who entertained. He had a gigantic smile, crazy hair and a sense of carefree energy that would light up a room. This is how I want to remember him.

On the 11th May 2020, our lives changed forever when my son Logan (aged 14) took his life. It started off as a typical Monday, he and his brother set off for school and that would be the last time I ever saw him.

The pain of losing him has been indescribable. As a parent, you never think of the possibility of outliving your children and so you’re completely unprepared. The shock of suicide is not something that you can ever seek closure. It’s with you in every second of every day and you learn to breathe differently.

The only way I can explain this grief is by saying that the life I had and the ‘Megs’ that existed prior to this loss, that life is over. I’ll never experience a ‘best day’ because it’ll be marred by his absence. I’ve had to relearn the ability to seek and experience joy in a different way.

I decided quite early in this grief, to channel some of the pain to sharing his story. I find it helps, talking about him helps keep him alive in my heart and mind. I can’t change what’s happened, but I can use his name and his memory to do what I can to make sure no other parent experiences what we’ve  gone through.
