October Mental Health Month - Indigenous Month
Thursday 7th Oct In the face of the COIVD-19 pandemic mental health has been a huge challenge for us all. While all lives are of equal value, I would like to pledge this month to my mob (s) who continue to face exponential mental health traumas at an alarming rate.The current suicide rate for Indigenous . Young persons is 3.2 times higher than the non-Indigenous cohort for a plethora of cultural and unique mental health related Issues stemming from colonisation, Land dispossession, inter generational trauma ,
domestic violence, childhood trauma, juvenile detention, general
Hyper incarceration (25% adult prison population / 50% juveniles ) and the separation from culture and Country (AIHW, 2020).
I will commit to at least 45 mins or at least 12,000 steps per day along with my family , for the month of October (until November 7th) in an effort to raise funds for my mob and show my community that we love them, we understand and we care.
