I'm fundraising for a great cause!
Adam and I have decided to take on this challenge to help R U OK? to spread their message and help prevent suicide.
We have decided to walk the Bicentennial National Trail from Healesville, VIC all the way at into Sydney, NSW. It spans 1570km of tough countryside hiking over the Alpines, through Kosciuszko as well as the blue mountains as we finish our journey walking into CBD Sydney.
We’ve done some trial hikes along the trail itself to practice and it is NO JOKE. Choosing a fitting challenge that tests our limits is important to us as people suffering with their mental health are climbing their own metaphoric mountains. We’re willing to push ourselves if it means saving lives.
Having both unfortunately suffered from the loss of family and friends to suicide this hits close to home for the two of us.
One of our personal messages we want to convey is the importance of mateship in the form of a strong brotherhood or sisterhood and being there for each other through the good times and the bad.
About 8 people take their own lives in Australia every day.
For every death, it’s estimated another 30 people will attempt suicide.
We want to help change these numbers.
R U OK?’s vision is of a world where we are all connected and protected from suicide.
Their mission is to inspire everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and support anyone struggling with life.
By inspiring people to take the time to ask, “Are you OK?” and listen, we can help people who are struggling with life to feel connected long before they even think about suicide.
