I'm fundraising for a great cause!
On September 12th, I’ll be running 100km around Centennial Park in Sydney to raise money for R U OK?, a charity dedicated to preventing suicide and encouraging meaningful conversations around mental health.
As an Irish person living on the other side of the world, I know how important it is to stay connected to people. Sometimes a simple question — “Are you OK?” — can make a bigger difference than we realise. Mental health struggles can affect anyone, and too often people suffer quietly. R U OK? works to change that by encouraging people to check in on friends, family, colleagues, and even strangers who might be doing it tough.
Running 100km is going to be… well, fairly ridiculous if I’m honest. Centennial Park is beautiful, but going around it for hours and hours (and hours) will definitely test the legs and the head. There will probably be moments where I question my life choices, my sanity, and why I didn’t just sign up for a normal marathon like everyone else.
But the challenge is the point.
If pushing through a long, uncomfortable day on my feet can help raise awareness and funds for a cause that encourages people to speak up, check in, and support each other, then it’s well worth it.
Mental health matters. Conversations matter. Looking out for each other matters.
If you can, please consider supporting the cause or sharing the page. Every donation helps R U OK? continue the incredible work they do.
And if you see a tall Irish bloke endlessly running laps of Centennial Park on September 12th… feel free to shout encouragement (or hand me a coffee)
