Marathon In Memory of My Mum Anne Smyth-Small
I have started this page both as a tribute to my Mum Anne Smyth-Small and as a beacon of hope in the fight against suicide.
Since my father passed away in August 2019 my mum has struggled with depression and her mental health. On August 21st 2023 my mother took her own life and there aren't any words to describe how we are all feeling. No one should lose a relative to suicide, especially not their mother.
I have never run more than 10km in my life outside of sport. I am running this marathon as it will be the hardest thing I've ever done physically, in hope I can raise awareness around the struggles that people face behind closed doors.
R U OK?’s vision is of a world where we are all connected and protected from suicide.
Their mission is to inspire everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and support anyone struggling with life.
By inspiring people to take the time to ask, “Are you OK?” and listen, we can help people who are struggling with life to feel connected long before they even think about suicide.
